My name is Ololade C. Olamigoke.
I was born under the West African sun to innovative and creative parents who placed a high value on education and opportunity. At age five, my father popped a question that changed the course of my life. He asked us if we would like to move to England or the United States. We choose the US, from there I spent my childhood between MD, DC, and VA.
While my youth included fond memories with my siblings, two brothers and a sister, my life and its meaning drastically changed after the untimely passing of my sister due to a car accident. My sister’s life left a beautiful piece of wisdom on my heart as she lived her life full of passion and love. I too wanted to live life this way; I guess it was my way of keeping her spirit alive within me.
I became consumed with the intense need to feel the blood flowing through my veins, pursuing what excited me the most in life. I loved the magical process of taking an idea born in my mind and developing it into a tangible product; I was always creating something. Until that point, I never considered the process as a viable career path; however, my perspective then changed to, “How I will make it my reality”. This realization inspired my decision to shift from a career in Public Health to manifesting my passion for creating with my hands, heart, and mind.
So, I did it. I took a daring, bold, move; resigned from a promising position in the public health field and applied to the Fashion Institute of Technology. I was accepted and moved to New York to study Footwear and Accessories Design. My footwear design career lead me to designing and developing footwear in Brazil, China, and Taiwan; working with experienced technicians to bring design concepts to life season after season.
Presently, I work as a footwear designer on a freelance basis as the owner of OCODesigns, which provides me the freedom to build my personal brand. My current focus is statement jewelry; handmade, tribal pieces that deviate in shape, size, and color from that of traditional jewelry. I consider this the starting point of more to come under the OCODesigns brand name.
My life is an evolving, global experience. The art I create and put out in the world is my voice, expressing thoughts of my creative soul. By doing this work, I am living my life with passion. I am carrying on my sister’s honor. Most importantly, I hope
to inspire you to find and carry out your passion.
I am currently based in Los Angeles, CA.
